Our Bare Story

Bare began life as a classic entrepreneur story – a dream shared by brother and sister, Tariq and May Mahmoud. After running the family pastry business, Tariq teamed up with May, a trained pastry chef at Paris’ Cordon Bleu, to create their own unique artisanal chocolate bar.

They quickly discovered that the average consumer could tell the difference between cheap chocolate and premium chocolate. They also found that the available premium chocolate bar choices in the Middle East were limited, expensive and did not reflect the region’s discerning palates.

Thus Bare was born with a simple idea: To create a selection of premium chocolate bars made with a combination of all-natural ingredients and the classic techniques of Swiss chocolatiers. Of course they realized that in order to get an authentic taste, the product had to be produced in Switzerland. So with their brand in hand, a partnership was born with one of the leading Swiss chocolate producers in the world.

Today, Bare’s artisanal chocolate bars are made in small batches, with the cocoa content clearly indicated on the front of each wrapper. Its fusion of responsibly cultivated and sourced organic fair trade raw materials, with premium chocolate are perfectly balanced to bring awareness to the region’s diverse culinary tastes.

Our founding principle is to produce the finest artisanal chocolate bars in the region in an entirely ethical and sustainable manner. All of our ingredients are carefully screened to ensure they meet our standards for social and environmental responsibility.

Why fairtrade?


We are committed to quality, environmental sustainability and ethical business practices. Bare Chocolates are Fairtrade certified to ensure that farmers in the producing countries receive a fair price and are able to provide their families with better nutrition, access to healthcare, education and the ability to reinvest in their farms using the Fairtrade Premium. We have also partnered with My climate to reduce our carbon emissions by printing our packaging on recycled materials.


Why our chocolate bars are GMO free?


At Bare, we believe healthy eating habits begin with environmentally sustainable growing practices. Our Fair Trade certification prohibits the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), as well as harmful chemicals and pesticides to protect farmers’ health and preserve ecosystems.


What makes bare's chocolate bars healthy?


Hundreds of studies indicate dark chocolate is a good source of antioxidants and flavonoids that promote healthy hearts, lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure. At Bare, our premium dark chocolate comes with a high percentage of cocoa, which contains a multitude of vitamins as well as calcium, magnesium, potassium and iron. And if that isn’t enough cause for happiness, eating dark chocolate releases serotonin which helps alleviate depression, reduce stress and boost energy.
